Eaton And Curtiss-Wright Working Together To Develop Stress Wave Analysis Technology For Rotorcraft Applications 1/28/2008 Peter Parsons (949) 253-2116 IRVINE, Calif.,… Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation’s Aerospace Operations and Curtiss-Wright Corporation recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop Curtiss-Wright’s Stress Wave Analysis (SWAN) technology for a new application in rotorcraft drive system conditioning monitoring.
Eaton is a leader in rotorcraft drive system condition monitoring. Over a period of 50 years, Eaton’s patented oil debris sensors and related products have been in operation on virtually every rotorcraft platform around the world. By combining Eaton’s oil debris sensing technology with SWAN, drive train faults can be trended and detected with higher accuracy and virtually eliminate false alarms.
Under the terms of the MOU, Curtiss-Wright is providing the SWAN technology exclusively to Eaton through its acquired Swantech business which operates within the Flow Control segment of the company. Eaton will be able to sell SWAN into the rotorcraft markets globally. Eaton will also deploy SWAN technology under Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and military flight standards and co-market the new product with the SWAN and Eaton brands. The initial agreement will be in force for a three-year period with an option to renew.

China Rolls Out First ARJ-21 Regional Jet Aircraft With Eaton Onboard 1/7/2008 Peter Parsons (949) 253-2116 IRVINE, California, January 7, 2008 - On December 21, the first completely assembled ARJ-21 -- dubbed the Xiangfeng, or Flying Phoenix -- was towed out of a Shanghai aircraft manufacturing factory hangar in a rollout ceremony. The event was broadcast by the China Central Television network and covered in the official Xinhua News Agency media outlets.
The 90-seat ARJ-21 regional jet is scheduled to make its first flight in March. The aircraft is the first in a planned series of larger airliners, intended to be marketed worldwide.
In 2004, China's AVIC 1 Commercial Aircraft Company Ltd. (ACAC) selected Eaton to design and supply the integrated cockpit panel assemblies and cockpit lighting controller subsystem for the ARJ-21.
The series of integrated panel assemblies supplied by Eaton features Eaton's state of the art NEXGENTM LED-illuminated pushbutton switches mated to Type-7 LED edge-lit panels. In addition, Eaton has designed and supplied a multi-channel cockpit lighting controller, as well as Eaton manufactured toggle and non-illuminated pushbutton switches.
Today, China's aviation industry has turned over a new leaf, said Lin Zuoming, general manager of China Aviation Industry Corporation I (AVIC I). A country's aviation industry is not complete unless it is able to produce civilian aircraft.
AVIC-I expects as the ARJ-21 to dominate China's regional jet market over the next 20 years, with as much as 60 percent of the estimated 900-plane market. The company also hopes for worldwide interest in the plane, and is working with the FAA to develop certification standards.
